Grants for Camps – YMCA Summer Camp Scholarships for Homeless Youth and Families in Need
Since 1993, the Windermere Real Estate North, Inc. office in Lynnwood, Washington has been building on its commitment to providing the opportunity for homeless kids to attend summer camp. Through a partnership with YMCA Camping Services, a department of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, and funding through the Windermere Foundation, the office has provided monies for camp scholarships for youth ages seven through seventeen to attend overnight summer camp at either Camp Orkila on Orcas Island, or Camp Colman on the Key Peninsula. Over the years, scholarships have been extended to include financially distressed families as well. Without this funding, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity simply would not exist for many deserving kids.

Building Better Communities – March Edition
Windermere offices throughout our network work with local organizations year-round to raise money for the Windermere Foundation and their local communities. In 2011, we launched the “Building Better Communities, One Home Sale at a Time” campaign, to raise awareness for some of the amazing community partnerships our offices and agents have developed. These projects go above and beyond Windermere Foundation donations and our annual Community Service Day. Below are just a few of the events that took place during the month of March. You can follow all upcoming projects on our Building Better Communities page.

Windermere Foundation Quarterly Report
Greetings from the Windermere Foundation,
Happy 2013 – hope this New Year is off to a great start! We have many stories (and raves!) to share with you about how your support of the Windermere Foundation translated into meaningful and necessary help for so many struggling families in 2012. Collectively, we raised an impressive $1,359,032. This is up 13% from 2011. And for the thirteenth consecutive year, over-and-above contributions have exceeded transaction fee income, with 35 percent coming from transaction fee revenue, and over-and-above revenue at 65 percent. But, equally astonishing is how much has been raised since 1989. We’ve reached an impressive milestone with over 25 million dollars raised, allowing us to help thousands of low-income and homeless families with the most basic of needs.

It Can Happen to Anybody
When the Foundation was established in 1989, our focus was homeless families. We’ve since realized that keeping families in their homes has many obvious benefits, so most of our support is now directed to programs with goals of preventing families from becoming homeless. Most of the families we help are “working poor” – meaning they work hard, but easily fall behind if there is an illness or some unexpected expense. And without a safety net, many find themselves on the verge of becoming homeless.
